I am using Garageband 10.0.3, which does not have Edit or Browse tabs right below Instrument Track for Library like earlier version. All the youtube videos and article/blogs about installing another program's instrument sounds into Garageband are all outdated. The paths are so different in 10.0.3. Nothing in the tutorials or videos shown works in 10.0.3. By reading posts and questions/answers about similar issue, I found out that VST plugins for instrument sounds are mainly used in Windows, which I successfully could integrated any Windows based DAW together by placing the .dll files into the host's plugin folder. However, I could not do that in Mac. If I am not mistaken from the posts I read, AU is what Mac mainly uses. Even if I want a vst plugin instrument sound, I should install AU but not VST. OK, so I did drag the AU.component from another program into Garageband's instrument library/Sampler Files, Audio/Sounds, and Instrument Library/Sampler. However, none of them works. I clicked on Garageband's Editor/Plug-in/Instrument, the plugin from the other program is never shown.
Please anyone teach me how to install another program's plug-in, so I can use the sounds other than Garageband's. In Windows, the other program's work station would show up on the host screen, and I have seen some youtube videos about bringing in another program's workstation onto Garageband's screen, so are the sounds, in earlier version of Garageband. Please show me how I can do the same with 10.0.3. Thanks you in advance

For those of you using 3rd-party audio unit plugins in GarageBand on macOS 10.13 High Sierra there's a big problem: your plugins won't load. But, here's a solution to unlock your effects and synths!
![Mac Mac](/uploads/1/2/6/0/126002377/268270256.png)
So, you downloaded and installed the new macOS 10.13 High Sierra after checking that most/all of your audio software and plugins are now compatible.. and then discover that Apple's own DAW, GarageBand, can't load any of your 3rd-party plugins.
If you've come across the warning stating: 'The Audio Unit 'XXX' could not be loaded for your project, and may need to be updated..' then before you throw anything at your Mac's computer screen, breathe and read on to discover a temporary solution that'll help you get around this security/sandboxing issue. We're sure Apple will provide an update in the near future, so an upcoming macOS or GarageBand update might well be the best solution. And if you use Logic Pro X or any other DAW your plugins should load absolutely fine there. This is just a GarageBand and macOS High Sierra issue. If you're experiencing this issue like many others in the Apple Discussions forum here then you can try this trick courtesey of Two notes Engineering:
Mac Garageband Au Vst Downloads
- Download & install Two Notes Sandbox Patch plugin
- Reboot your Mac
- Open GarageBand
- Add Two Notes Sandbox Patch plugin on a track, a popup will appear
- Click 'Lower Security Settings'
- This screen will appear:
- Now load your AU plugins in GarageBand on macOS 10.13 High Sierra
Our support manager at Ask.Audio, Christian Labbé, tested the above on macOS High Sierra with GarageBand and noted it works perfectly, but you will need to carry out this process every time you launch GarageBand.
But at least this is a band-aid fix over a security issue that looks like it should be very easy for Apple to solve in a coming update.
